About this tool

Turn a slice of your video into an animated GIF: upload a file, set the start and end time, then choose frame rate and output size. The browser grabs frames one by one and stitches them with the built-in GIF encoder. Decoding and encoding both happen locally - no upload, no signup. Lower frame rate, smaller size and fewer colors all shrink the file.

  • Upload a video (MP4 / WebM / MOV, depending on the codecs your browser ships) or just drop the file in
  • Set the start and end time, up to 60 seconds. Lower frame rate means a smaller file - around 10fps is usually the sweet spot
  • The output long edge drives the file size: 480px suits chat stickers and comments, 320px suits avatar animations
  • Dropping to 64 or 32 colors and turning dithering off halves the size again; go back to 256 colors with dithering when you need finer detail
