How to use

This tool decides what is background by colour, so it shines on ID photos, product shots on white, logos and screenshots. Complex real-world scenes (hair, glass, gradient backdrops) can only be separated roughly - pair them with manual colour picking and tolerance tweaks.

  • The backdrop is sampled from the four edges automatically, so you rarely need to touch anything. If it guesses wrong, click the matching colour on the original image to set it by hand.
  • Tolerance decides how close to the backdrop counts as background: raise it when backdrop clings to the subject, lower it when the subject starts eroding. Edge transition widens the gradient band beyond the tolerance for softer borders.
  • Keep "Only remove background touching the edges" on, so areas inside the subject that share the backdrop colour (a white shirt, eye whites, white inside a logo) are not punched through.
  • Decontaminate edges un-mixes the backdrop blended into semi-transparent pixels, removing the classic white halo - paste the cutout onto a dark background and no white fringe shows.
  • To swap an ID photo backdrop, pick Blue or Red under Background and keep PNG. For a plain cutout choose Transparent and download the PNG. Everything runs locally - the image never leaves your device.
